Meebo, a widely known software capable of allowing users to use all their Instant Messenging Network together, under one roof (be it ICQ, MSN, AIM, Jabber, gtalk, Yahoo!, Jabber). What Meebo distinguishes itself from other similar clients is that it is completely Web-based. That’s right, no installation, no frills, accessing to your instant messaging network on the fly.
Yesterday, Meebo launced its latest feature, a Meebo add-on for Firefox Internet browser users. This allows Firefox users to access Meebo from a sidebar in their Firefox. We’ll let pictures do the talking for now.

You will be greeted with the Meebo sidebar once you complete the installation of the Firefox add-on. From there on, you will be able to sign in to Meebo network or login to other network of your choice.

Upon signing in, a Meebo Tab will be open to act as the interface for logging in, chatting. Currently the Meebo sidebar only works as a contact list displayer and changing some account display settings. The rest of the actions which includes chatting, setting preferences etc will still had to be done in the Meebo tab opened. Without the Meebo tab, you are considered logged out from Meebo.
The current Meebo add-on for Firefox includes a toaster alert feature similar to the original Windows Live Messenger (and its predecessor MSN Messenger). You can set this at the add-on options to enable/disable the toaster feature.
Currently we find the Meebo add-on for Firefox not very useful, since everything is still handled by the Meebo tab opened. However Meebo promised that they will remove that tab requirement soon. Therefore, chatting right from the straight bar will no longer be a dream to wait for too long.
Meebo for Firefox Edition is a good start, and the places for improvements are plenty still. We would say it’s worth a try for Meebo Firefox Edition, and with the future versions coming up, there’s no longer a need to open a Meebo tab anymore to use meebo.
