A URL Handling Vulnerability in Adobe Reader and Acrobat which has the potential to allow an attacker to take over the system has been fixed by Adobe today.
The affected Adobe softwares are as below:
- Adobe Reader 8.1 and earlier, Adobe Reader 7.0.9 and earlier
- Adobe Acrobat Professional, 3D and Standard 8.1 and earlier versions
- Adobe Acrobat Professional, Standard, 3D and Elements 7.0.9 and earlier
This security hole on affects users of Windows XP with Internet Explorer 7 installed. Windows Vista users are not affected by this.
It is highly recommended to users using the versions of Adobe software above to upgrade it to Adobe Reader 8.1.1 or Acrobat 8.1.1.

Users of Adobe Reader and Acrobat earlier than 7.0.9 will have to wait a later date to receive the patch. For a faster route, upgrade to Adobe Reader or Acrobat 8.1.1.
