You’ve seen the new Gmail 2.0, you’ve used it. Well then, surely you did realize that every single emails are now having its own URL and you can bookmark them. But did you realized they are flawed?
Permalinks
They may seem to be useful, as you can bookmark each single emails/inbox/labels/spambox/outbox. This allows you to quickly navigate to the desired location within Gmail with a bookmark. However, try doing it if you are not logged in.

You will be asked to sign in, and so you did as what you are told. Aren’t you surprise now to be landed at a familiar place again?

You will be brought to the Main Inbox View regardless of any bookmarks that you clicked and logged in. You will have to reclick your bookmarks for it to display the correct locations that you want as intended. So what’s the point of having so many bookmarks and getting redirect back to the Inbox View everytime we logged in. Aren’t the links suppose to redirect us to the correct locations after we logged in? This technical error needs to be solved, Google.
Permalinks Usage & Its Flaw
Besides being used as links for bookmarking of locations within Gmail, you can also use permalinks to quickly search through your emails. Simply type in
http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&shva=1#search/facebook
by replacing “facebook” with your searching keyword and you will get the searched results instantly. However bear in mind that should you used a manual search by calling the search function through permalinks, the permalinks will no longer update itself when you navigate to other locations in Gmail. This is something that Google needs to fix too.
