google-highly-open-participation-contest-logo.pngI know it sounds horrible for a contest name, but you got to face it with a smile because it’s a contest sponsored by Google afterall. Google Highly Open Participation Contest, dubbed GHOP follows the success of Google Summer of Code and aims to encourage and inspire students age 13 and above to participate in open source development.

What do you do?
What you are going to do in this contest is to participate in one of the ten open source organizations participating in the contest. You will then attempt to complete each tasks set out by the participating organizations. The range of tasks involve includes writing/refactoring codes, documentations, community management and outreaching, quality assurance, research, training, localization of works and improvement of user interfaces.

Timeline
Contest starts on 27th November 2007 and ends on 4th February 2008. A grand prize winner will be announced on 11th February 2008.

Prizes
Contestants will receive a t-shirt and certificate for participating and 100 USD for every three tasks completed. A maximum of 500 USD can be received by a contestant.

Besides this, ten grand prizes winners will receive a trip to Googleplex receive their awards and for one parent or guardian.
